Ann Yaffe Phillips has been an art dealer and art advisor in the field of 20th century art for over 30 years. Her deep passion for art, love of scholarship, experienced eye, integrity and commitment to her clients have propelled her career. Ann began her career working at contemporary galleries and next moved to Hirschl & Adler Galleries, where she was active in sales and curated exhibitions of American modernism and decorative arts. She later joined the Citibank Art Advisory Service as the Contemporary Art advisor where she advised high net worth clients on acquisitions and sales for collections and appraised art held as collateral by the bank. While at Citi she purchased for collectors many iconic examples of contemporary art which have later set records at auction. Beginning in 2000, Ann was an independent art advisor and private dealer, primarily in the fields of Contemporary and American art, and also formed select collections for corporate clients. Ann joined James Reinish & Associates in 2008, where as Gallery Director she again worked in private sales of 20th century American and post-war art and curated exhibitions of American modernism.
Ann graduated with honors from Yale University with a B.A. in the History of Art, and did graduate studies in Art History at Hunter College. She currently serves on the Acquisitions Committee of the Montclair (NJ) Art Museum and was formerly on the Membership and Appraisals Committees of the Art Dealers Association of America.

Art is a passionate pursuit. Art provides engagement with a past moment in history or with the most vital issues and ideas of contemporary culture. While art can be a solid investment, it should be pursued for the excitement, intellectual enjoyment and aesthetic pleasure it provides. An experienced, professional art advisor can ensure that a collection remains both a good investment and an aesthetic success. A professional’s eye and expertise can bring works of superior quality to the attention of a collector. Art market knowledge can determine the appropriate value of works of art and save a collector from making very expensive mistakes. An experienced art advisor can provide access to market opportunities not available to the new art buyer.
At the heart of an advisory relationship is the dialogue and communication between advisor and client. For the beginning art collector, an art advisor can provide extensive educational background to help create a collecting philosophy in tune with the collector’s taste and resources. An art advisor can expose the new collector to areas of the market previously undiscovered. For the veteran collector with an established direction, an art advisor can provide research and in-depth knowledge, while facilitating the time-intensive task of locating appropriate artworks for consideration. A practiced eye, market access, art historical knowledge and familiarity with the auction houses and private sources – all benefit the collector in assembling works that are of the best quality, acquired at the best possible price. The objective advice and due diligence provided by a professional art advisor can make the difference between merely buying art and possessing an art collection of lasting value.
